Constructed in 1889 the two roomed thatched dwelling became the first officially regarded permanent police presence in central Australia. From 1904 it was the first offical gaol, prison and house of correction in Central Australia until it closed in 1909, after which it degenerated into an abandoned ruin till its complete restoration as a historic building in 1971.
