The large lowland loch of Loch Leven lies within the old county of Kinross-shire, overlooked by the Lomond Hills to the east, and Benarty Hill to the south. The town of Kinross lies on its western side and the park at KIrkgate is situated at the shoreline.
A paved area surrounded by a hedge near Kirkgate Point, with wooden benches, features a curved metal bar around thirty feet long, mounted on seven metal struts. The bar depicts the view north-eastwards around to the south-east across the loch, along with information on the local history and wildlife.
It was designed by artist, David Wilson and erected by TRACKS (The Rural Access Committee for Kinross-shire) in 2008. Originally the view was clear from the indicator, but the surrounding hedge has grown over the years.
