The Greek and Gothic Revivals in American architecture had a limited but clear influence on the Westminster streetscape. The Gothic Revival in particular and as elsewhere was favored for ecclesiastical architecture. Westminster successfully employs Gothic design as early as the 1840s when Robert Gary Long, Jr., designed the Ascension Episcopal Church (1844) on Court Street The Episcopal complex was later expanded by a Gothic inspired rectory at 35 Court Place (1876) and a small chapel at 30 North Court Street (c. 1870). Both of these later buildings have enjoyed successful adaptations in use: the Rectory row houses law offices and the Chapel is a private residence."
