L'ancienne mine National est aussi appelée la «Nationale» ou mine Pontbriand, en raison de sa situation géographique à Pontbriand dans la municipalité de Thetford Mines. Exploité pour l'amiante, son gisement a été découvert en 1947, à la suite de travaux de prospection. Cependant, la production ne commence seulement que quelques années plus tard, soit en 1958.La «Nationale» procèderait à l'extraction et au traitement du minerai d'amiante dans le but de vendre la fibre brute à des compagnies fabriquant des produits à base d'amiante. La mine a cessé son exploitation en 1986. (Réf : Répertoire du patrimoine culturel du Québec)
The former National mine is also called the “Nationale” or Pontbriand mine, due to its geographical location in Pontbriand in the municipality of Thetford Mines. Mined for asbestos, its deposit was discovered in 1947, following prospecting work. However, production did not begin until a few years later, in 1958. The "Nationale" would extract and process asbestos ore with the aim of selling the raw fiber to companies making products with it. The mine ceased operations in 1986.
