"The 'Monument to the Fallen' in Veenendaal is a bronze sculpture group of a standing male figure with torch and clenched fist and a reclining male figure. Together they form a cross. The statue is placed on a light-colored travertine pedestal with a bronze plaque. Behind the statue is a black marble memorial stone in a semi-circle. The monument is 2 meters 50 high, 82 centimeters wide and 72 centimeters deep.
The text on the plaque reads:
'TO THOSE WHO FELL,
HIGH OVER QUESTIONS,
LIED AND GRAVED
CARRY YOUR SACRED FIRE:
ALL PRIVILEGE, ALL DUTY'.
The text on the left panel of the memorial stone reads:
'THE CHILDREN WHO
IN AND THROUGH THE SECOND WORLD WAR
LOST THEIR LIVES'.
In the middle it reads:
'IN MEMORY OF THE PERISHED PEATLANDERS'.
Below are listed 79 victims.
To the right it reads:
'FALLEN IN THE NETHERLANDS INDIES'.
Nine names are mentioned below."
