The Kwick Stop convenience store on W. Broadway in McLoud has a large green dinosaur statue on the grassy area near their gas pumps. This is a Sinclair station and Dino is proudly standing there by the pumps.
The Sinclair Oil Company first began using the Apatosaurus (later known as Brontosaurus) as a marketing symbol in 1930. It quickly took off, and people loved him. Dino, as he became known, made an appearance at the Sinclair display at the Chicago World's Fair in 1933, and again at the New York World's Fair, a 70 ft. replica appeared in 1939. Even Walt Disney used the dinosaur, as well as other reptiles in his well-known Fantasy movie in 1940.
This all-green statue is about 12 ft. long and stands on a concrete slab alongside the curbing.
