A bit south of midway between Oliver and Osoyoos is a short section of the old Highway 97, about 2 kilometres in length, with the new highway running alongside to its east. The NRCAN description has it on the west side of the highway. Some would interpret that to mean the present highway unless they realized that 83C130 was monumented almost 40 years ago and a lot has happened there in the past 40 years. So, it becomes necessary to search, not along the present highway, but the old section to the west.
Sure enough, in the rough vicinity (NRCAN coordinates are notoriously BAD/inaccurate, at least in the west) of the NRCAN coordinates we spied the crumbling remnants of a low, old concrete loading dock. Walking along it we eventually spied 83C130, partially obscured by tall grass and weeds.
