Try as we might, we were unable to find 83C128. On the power pole 80 centimetres northwest of its (supposed) location was mounted a plastic marker which wraps around the southern half of the pole. The marker indicates that 83C128 is, possibly was, "nearby". It may well still be in place but, if it is, a few decades of winter road sand and salt have covered it to an unknown depth.
This is not at all uncommon. We have been unable to find several other benchmarks which were monumented too near the road and seemingly suffered a similar fate. In most cases, even a metal detector has been unable to discover their whereabouts. Others, however, have left no trace, while 83C128 has left a power pole marker to mark its "nearby" location.
