On the west side of Highway 33, about 11 kilometres north of Rock Creek, is a large rock outcrop, looking somewhat like a huge boulder, the top of which slopes to the north. On the much steeper south end of the outcrop, near the bottom and about a metre above the surrounding ground is a small shelf. It is on the top of this shelf that 79C422 was monumented in 1979.

You'll notice burned and blackened trees in the background. This was near the northern extent of the 2015 Rock Creek Fire which burned many kilometres up the Kettle Valley from Rock Creek, burning over 2 dozen homes and forcing hundreds to evacuate.
