The bridge was destroyed by a truck explosion which also destroyed the adjacent road bridge leaving a 6m deep crater. The Bridge carried a single 1.07m gauge railway, with spans of six at 12.2m, 18.3m and four at 12.2m.
At 9.50pm on the 5th of September 2014, 26km south of Charleville, a truck carrying 53 tonnes of ammonium nitrate caught fire, crashed and exploded at Angellala Creek destroying the road and the nearby rail bridges. The blast was felt 26km away at Charleville and caused the destruction two fire trucks and a police car. and injured 8 emergency workers. The road bridge has been rebuilt, but signs of the explosion still remain, and the story is told through a specially prepared interpretive area at the site.
All that remains are two concrete support pylons and six concrete bases for the steel supports
