PFC DeWeese is buried in the Netherlands American Cemetery, where, interestingly, his headstone reads "Charley" and not the more formal "Charles." There's not much to be found about his fate, other than that he was Killed in Action and awarded a Purple Heart, but the Honor States website has a few tidbits. He hailed from Lamkin in Comanche County, a few miles south of here, and entered the service in 1944 at Fort Wolters in Mineral Wells. Sadly, he never knew his son, Jimmy, who was born on the day his father died.
