"1860 wurde in München die Spielkartenfabrik F.X. Schmid gegründet. Das Betriebsgebäude in der Mittererstraße - unweit des Hauptbahnhofs - wurde 1944 durch einen Bombenangriff total zerstört. Während der juristische Sitz der Firma in München blieb, wurde 1948 die Fabrikation nach Prien verlegt und dort von Johann Schmid in einem Haus an der Hochplattenstraße wieder aufgenommen.

1952 erwarb Johann Schmid das Lechner-Anwesen an der Bachstraße 17 und errichtete dort ein neues Fabrikgebäude. Erzeugt wurden Tarock-Karten mit bayerischem, fränkischen und württemberger Bild sowie die klassischen Skat-Karten. Durch die kontinuierliche Erweiterung des Produktionsprogramms wurde F.X. Schmid neben seiner herausragenden Stellung im deutschen Spielkartenmarkt zu einem der führenden deutschen Anbieter für Kinderkartenspiele, Puzzles und Gesellschaftsspiele (Mensch ärgere Dich nicht!).

1972 übernahmen die Söhne Peter und Rainer Schmid den Betrieb und bezogen in diesem Jahr - da das Gebäude an der Bachstraße zu klein wurde - einen Neubau Am Mühlbach 6. Zu dieser Zeit umfasste der Betrieb 180 Arbeitsplätze und eine Nutzfläche von rund 4.500 Quadratmetern.

Nachdem nach der deutschen Wiedervereinigung F.X. Schmid zunächst die Altenburger Spiele in Thüringen übernommen hatte, erwarb 1997 die Firma Ravensburger Spiele die F.X. Schmid GmbH einschließlich der Immobilien, jedoch ohne das Grundstück Bachstraße 17. Die Fabrikation der Spielkarten und der Spiele wurde nach Ravensburg und Altenburg verlegt; in Prien blieb lediglich noch ein Teil des Versandes, der nach kurzer Zeit eingestellt wurde." Heute befindet sich im Haus eine Tanzschule, Kampfsportschule, Meditationszentrum Diamantweg Buddhismus der Karma-Kagyü-Linie sowie eine Psychtherapeutische Praxis.

The playing card factory FX Schmid was founded in Munich in 1860. The company building in Mittererstraße - not far from the main train station - was totally destroyed by a bomb attack in 1944. While the company's legal headquarters remained in Munich, production was relocated to Prien in 1948, where Johann Schmid started production in a house in Hochplattenstrasse.

In 1952 Johann Schmid acquired the Lechner property at Bachstrasse 17 and built a new factory building there. Tarock cards with Bavarian, Franconian and Württemberg images as well as the classic Skat cards were generated. Due to the continuous expansion of the production program, F.X. Schmid, in addition to its outstanding position in the German playing card market, is one of the leading German providers of children's card games, puzzles and board games (Mensch ärgere Dich nicht!).

In 1972 the sons Peter and Rainer Schmid took over the business and moved into a new building at Am Mühlbach 6 that year - as the building on Bachstrasse was too small.

After F.X. Schmid had initially taken over the Altenburger Spiele in Thuringia, in 1997 the Ravensburger Spiele company acquired F.X. Schmid GmbH including the real estate, but without the property at Bachstrasse 17. The production of playing cards and games was relocated to Ravensburg and Altenburg; in Prien only part of the dispatch remained, which was discontinued after a short time. "Heimatbuch Prien a. Today there is a dance school, martial arts school, meditation center Diamond Way Buddhism of the Karma Kagyu lineage and a psychotherapeutic practice in the house.
