A lighthouse in the middle of the mitten? A unique location in a rest area where two US highways (US-10 east/west, US-127 north/south) merge for 3 miles before crossing, just north of Clare, Michigan.

OK, now Michigan has it's share of lighthouses. Michigan has the longest freshwater shoreline and the longest coastline of any state, except Alaska. Tell me why there is a lighthouse in the center of the mitten? Two words: Tourism office.
