The mayor of Yaiza, Gladys Acuña, and the councilor for the Primary Sector and Economic Promotion of the Cabildo, Antonio Morales, confirmed this Wednesday at the town hall the “interest and commitment” of both institutions in making the opening of the Camel Museum a reality in the town from Uga, a town that has the most important camel herd in Europe.
Accompanied by councilors Roque Herrera and Jonatan Lemes, Acuña and Morales then visited Casa Celedonio, the municipal building located in front of the fairground that will host the museum.
The Yaiza City Council and the Cabildo have agreed that the Insular Corporation is in charge of preparing the project "to join forces and specify its financing as soon as possible."
From the Consistory it is highlighted that the camel has “a very important value in agriculture and construction of the island landscape”, as well as that “for at least four decades it has been the main protagonist of the sustainable tourist experience in the Timanfaya National Park with the daily walks for visitors on animal backs.
"The Camel Museum also represents a tribute to the town of Uga and the cattle families that maintain the activity, a fact that public representatives wish to highlight," the southern City Council highlighted.
The Cheese Fair is back
At the end of the meeting, the mayor and the councilor also confirmed the celebration next March of another edition of the Playa Blanca Cheese Fair, which last year could not be carried out "for logistical reasons."
On the other hand, the Wine Run Lanzarote 2017 will end at the Uga fairgrounds. In the enclosure, the City Council has undertaken improvement works, among them, the channeling of electrical networks.
