The cental point of the city park in Graz is the large Town Park Fountain (Stadtparkbrunnen) which is also called Emperor Franz Josef Fountain (Kaiser-Franz-Josef-Brunnen). The fountain is an exhibit from the Vienna World's Fair in 1873, where it was awarded an honorary diploma for art casting. The fountain sculpture was created by Jean-Baptiste-Jules Klagmann (1810–1867) and implemented by the silver and bronze manufacturer Antoine Durenne (1822–1895). After the World's Fair the city Vienna offered to purchase the fountain in 1874 and the fountain was bought by the Graz city. On August 19, 1874, the fountain, transported by five train wagons, arrived in Graz and was brought to the area that had already been structurally prepared in the city park. Wilhelm Kienzl (1827–1902), Mayor of Graz, put the fountain system into operation on October 4, 1874, the name day of Franz Joseph I.

In a circular basin stands a cast iron central column with two scales. Between the upper and lower scale stand four allegorical figures, probably representing four rivers. The central column is adorned with putti and fish. In the basin around the central column are eight tritons with fish and shell (two different designs).
