Welcome
Greetings! Allow us to introduce ourselves. We are Graceland United Methodist Church. Over the past 75 years, we’ve come to be known as the “Friendly Church”. This is the kind of church where everybody knows your name and it doesn’t scare you. We average just over a hundred people on Sunday morning: enough to be exciting but not enough to get lost in the shuffle. Almost everybody attends our weekly fellowship time to eat, catch up with old friends, and make new ones.
Graceland UMC is a family of all ages. Many of our families have three generations present in the pews. Our Sunday School is phenomenal. We have classes for all ages and use current official United Methodist literature from Cokesbury. The same goes for our annual Vacation Bible School, which attracts children from the entire neighborhood. Our men’s group, women’s group, and youth group are all active and meet at least once a month. Graceland’s church suppers are famous in the area for offering only home-cooked poultry (no processed rolls) and real whipped potatoes.
As a worshiping community, we take our faith very seriously. Proclamation of and response to the Word are central in our services, which are liturgical but casual. (Wear whatever you want. Everybody else does!) In an effort to focus more on Christian discipleship, we have recently started using the Disciple Bible Study program, which is an intensive week-night study covering 70% of the scriptures in 34 weeks.
