This fire department has a total of 26 full time firefighters. Station No. 1 was built in 2012, and is housed in the Public Safety Center at 2707 Faith Avenue on the south side of El Reno. The building also houses the police department and the emergency operations center.
The Canadian County Historical Society website gives a very interesting history of the El Reno fire department beginning in 1894 with two horse-drawn hose carts with 500 feet of hose. In 1902, two horses Dan and Pat began pulling the carts. Dan died after a fire run in 1911. Pat was transferred to the street department, and later to the cemetery department, until his death in 1930. The first motor driven fire wagon served from 1916 to 1955. ERFD History
