English: Riecks Archaeological Collection was established by Jørgen Rieck for a period of 60 years. The collection contains more than 50,000 effects and is one of Denmark's largest private collections of ancient finds. In some geographical areas it even surpasses the National Museum. There are finds from, among others, Bundsø on Als, Anholt and Fyns Hoved.

Jørgen Rieck's Archaeological Collection is the result of a lifetime's commitment to amateur archeology. The collection is collected by ex. duty manager at Danfoss, Jørgen Rieck, who came from Thy, but lived in Svenstrup on Nordals.

Jørgen Rieck was only eight years old when he went behind his father on a hunting trip and found a flint spot. Jørgen Rieck himself tells in an article in Danfoss Avisen, "Ventilen", from 1956, that the flint tools he found at the time sparked his boyish imagination, and that the Stone Age people became his great heroes.

The father was a skilled amateur paleontologist, ie. that he collected fossils, so Jørgen Rieck has had a good role model.

When space began to run out for all the archaeological finds in the home - and when Jørgen Rieck wanted others to have the opportunity to see the large collection, he opened his own private museum in 1971 in a barrack in the backyard on Nordborgvej in Svenstrup.

In 1992, the collection was moved to the old school at Egebjergvej 4 in Svenstrup. Jørgen Rieck thus handed over his collection to the then Nordborg Municipality in exchange for the municipality making the premises available and paying for light, water and cleaning.

At the same time, the association "Friends of the Archaeological Collection" was established with the purpose of safeguarding the collection and keeping watch during opening hours. The "friends" are now part of E Svenstruplaug.

The collection was and is widely known in archaeological circles. Dutch people regularly come to Svenstrup to visit the collection. And in 1993 there was a world congress for archaeologists in Vejle, where 30 of the participants, from Europe and the USA, took the trip to Svenstrup to see the collection. The experts were very impressed with the size and content of the collection.
