The 16" x 24" metal placard is approximately four-and-one-half feet above ground level and fastened to the light brick masonry at a dozen points around its perimeter. It's mainly flat and quite snug against the wall except where the upper right corner bends outward slightly and rust formed at and above the crease. The background is currently an orange red that shows some scrapes and fading. A thin, single line border and hand lettering in white paint are about 80 percent worn away, but legible. The text reads:
PRIVATE WAY
PASS AT YOUR
OWN RISK
Friendly
TRAVEL & REAL ESTATE
The first line is the largest text; the second, third, and fourth mid-sized, and the fifth smallest. The words of the second and third row are underlined for emphasis. Most faded of all, "Friendly" is in a calligraphic font and refers to the long-gone Friendly Insurance company, which had offices at 36A Main Street in the building.
