"Between the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, the town's four stone crosses were erected and can still be visited at a time when the town was affected by numerous epidemics and the bubonic plague.

Allariz is also sadly known for having embraced in his environment the adventures and crimes committed during the 19th century for which he is considered the only case of clinical lycanthropy (mental illness) that occurred in the history of Spain: that of Manuel Blanco Romasanta .

Allariz's so-called werewolf is credited with committing between 9 and 13 murders of women and children, brutally committed after taking fat from their victims to sell along with their belongings. Considered a serial killer, Romasanta alleged in his defense that he was the victim of a curse that turned him into a wolf and forced him to commit the crimes."
