When you have left the ferry from the ferry terminal in Sælvig on the Danish island of Samsø, the first step on the way to the island is the small welcome sign. Next to the welcome greeting is the island's coat of arms on the left. Two white oars are shown, which are set up in an inclined cross with the oar blades facing up on a blue background. This symbolizes the history of the island, which was already inhabited in the times of the Vikings, as well as the connection to the surrounding Baltic Sea. The basic form of the coat of arms was already in use around 1584, and in 1970 it was simplified to the current version.
