The action, which has a budget of 149,629.78 euros, is part of the conditioning of a 31.5-kilometer hiking route between Bande and Rairiz de Veiga, which is called ‘Roteiro archeolóxico, ethnographic and interpretativo two ecosystems forestais do Monte Big '.
The works of revaluation of the forest and heritage system in Monte Grande (Concello de Bande) that the Ministry of Rural Affairs is carrying out in the county capital, have allowed the rehabilitation of the recreational area of ??Alto do Vieiro. The space, which represents the natural gateway to the Baixa Limia, is known by residents and tourists for the quality of the water that comes out of the base of the trunk of the tree that presides over it. The works, which will last throughout the month of August, will allow the refurbishment of the fountain and its surroundings, as well as the recreational area located next to the OU-540 road, between Ourense and the border with Portugal.
At the beginning of the year, the Department of Rural Affairs began the work of archaeological prospecting and clearing of the roads along which the route that bears the name ‘Roteiro archaeological, ethnographic and interpretative two forest ecosystems of Monte Grande I and II and Congostro’ will run. A project promoted by the XV-A Limia Forest District, which aims to recover and enhance the Galician ecosystem through the conditioning of 31.5 kilometers of old forest roads and tracks between the municipalities of Bande and Rairiz de Veiga, as well as the cleaning and promotion (with new signage) of the sites that are located there. Among them, stand out from the autonomous department, ‘the only foxo do lobo in the shape of a cross recovered in Galicia, several petroglyphs and eight mamoas (megalithic necropolises)’.
