In the two lateral niches you can see two high reliefs, on the left Aaron guiding the Hebrew people to the water emanating from the desert, the work of Giovan Battista della Porta and on the right Gideon chooses the soldiers observing their way of drinking from Flaminio Vacca and Pietro Paolo Olivieri, also authors of the frieze with the papal coat of arms of Sixtus V. In the central niche is represented Moses pointing to the waters miraculously arising from the rock, the work of Leonardo Sormani, with the collaboration of Prospero Antichi, known as il Bresciano, to which was attributed for years the entire work, with the false legend that because of the shame he experienced because of the ugliness of the statue, he would have committed suicide. In addition to the anachronism of the presence of the Tables of the Law, which Moses had not yet received at the time of the miracle of the waters, the statue appears stout and emphatic enough to be baptized by the Romans as the "ridiculous Moses"
Already in the upper part, the papal shield is supported by the columns, and two angels accompany at its sides.
