Oberer Spaniöl. Freistehende Häuser sind in der
Churer Altstadt höchst selten. Der Obere Spaniol
ist das älteste Beispiel eines Bürgersitzes, der
sich vom Typus der in Chur üblichen Reihenhäuser
löste und in freier Lage eine repräsentative Wir-
kung erreichte. Die Bauherren waren Hauptmann
Carl von Salis und seine Frau Hortensia Gugelberg
von Moos. Leider ist für diese zweiflügelige An-
lage kein Architekt überliefert. Repräsentativ ist
nebst der Innenausstattung, die beispielsweise
eine kassettierte Decke von 1645 oder einen Turm-
ofen von 1750 aufweist, auch ein Arkadengang,
der zu einem schönen, terrassierten Garten auf
der südlichen Hausseite führt.
