Located on Highway 18, just south of the Turner Turnpike, Chandler is 45 miles east of Oklahoma City. Chandler is the county seat for Lincoln County. It was named for George Chandler, Assistant Secretary of the Interior at the time.

The town was first settled in 1891 with the opening of the Sac and Fox and Iowas lands. After a tornado struck in 1897 and almost destroyed the town, sturdier brick and stone buildings were constructed. Seven buildings and homes in Chandler have been placed on the National Register of Historic Places. An interesting place to visit is the museum located in the Chandler armory.

City Hall is located in a one-story brick building with a flat roof, which it shares with the Chandler Police Department. The town is governed by a Mayor and four Councilmen. They meet on the second Tuesday of each moth at 4:30 in the city hall.
