The Johanneskerk in Serooskerke originally dates from the fifteenth century, but has not escaped the necessary changes over the centuries. The choir of the church was razed to the ground during the siege of Middelburg in the period 1572-1574 and the nave was rebuilt in the 17th century.
Remarkably, the church tower remained unfinished; just under the later wooden roof, the start of a third tower guide can be seen.
In the southern church wall is a bluestone tomb of the former craftsman Phillibert van Tuyll van Serooskerken and his wife Vincentia Magdalena van Swieten.
