This cross of sacrifice was erected to commemorate the men of Hull who died during World War I (the Great War).

The cross is situated in the middle of a rose garden at the western end of Hedon Road Cemetery.
The cross is on top of a three step plinth, and the top part of the cross shaft has a sword carved into it. The top two steps of the plinth have the following inscriptions.
