The Airmen's Monument in Dronten is the propeller of the British Lancaster ED 357 of the 12th squadron. Behind the propeller is a memorial wall with a bricked-in plaque. The monument is 2 meters 50 high and 2 meters 50 wide.
The text on the plaque reads:
'IN MEMORY
OF THE FALLEN ALLIED
ALLIED PILOTS
1940 - 1945'.
The propeller of the British bomber symbolizes the countless planes that were shot down by the occupying forces during World War II.
-----
"The monument has a curved shield of nine slabs of natural stone. In the pavement in front of the slabs, the contours of Eastern and Southern Flevoland are visible in green stone, with an accent on the municipality of Dronten. The most important elements of the old monument, the memorial stone and the propeller of the Lancaster bomber ED 357 have been given a place. The propeller indicates the place that Dronten occupies in Flevoland. Near the monument a permanent provision has been made for the peacefire which was lit for the first time during the commemoration on May 4, 2006. The new monument has been given a central place in front of the Town Hall. The artwork cost €50,000."
