The Carey House Hotel, also known as the Eaton Hotel, was built in 1886-1887 by John B. Carey, a Wichita mayor and businessman. The building is five stories tall and features a square tower at the northeast corner. First known as the Carey House and later as the Eaton Hotel, the hotel (or, more precisely, the hotel bar, then known as one of the swankiest in the Midwest) would be one of the targets of Carry Nation's temperance campaign. At this time the lower floors are occupied by businesses; the upper floors are apartments.
