The first courthouse for Butler County began as a log cabin. It was soon replaced by a limestone block building that was expanded several times. As the county grew a new courthouse was required; this fine Romanesque Revival courthouse was constructed in 1909. The photo, taken from
this web site, shows the courthouse as it appeared some time before 1940, when the fountain in the lower left of the photo was replaced by a flagpole and veterans memorial.
