They kiss each other, but sometimes they don't, then abstract lines appear against the sky.

The monumental new Needle, a wedding gift from the population of Apeldoorn to Crown Prince Willem Alexander and Princess Maxima, is on display at the Stationsplein. The 17 meter high sculpture, designed by Jeroen Henneman (Haarlem, 1942), is a contemporary variation on the classical obelisk. The commission is inspired by the Needle by Gerrit de Zeeuw and Pieter Puype, which was presented to Queen Wilhelmina and Prince Hendrik by the residents in 1901.

Henneman made his ultimate Kiss, a spatial drawing of stainless steel. Elegantly, the slender tower swings upwards, ending in a hug in the air. A symbol of love and therefore a beautiful memorial to the princely couple.

Placed next to the station, in the middle of the hustle and bustle of everyday life, the statue has now become a meeting point. The natural stone plinth functions as a bench. At the Stationsplein in Apeldoorn you can meet at De Kus, could it be better?

De monumentale nieuwe Naald, een huwelijksgeschenk van de Apeldoornse bevolking aan kroonprins Willem Alexander en prinses Maxima, staat te pronken op het Stationsplein. De 17 meter hoge sculptuur, ontworpen door Jeroen Henneman (Haarlem,1942), is een hedendaagse variant op de klassieke obelisk. De opdracht is geïnspireerd op de Naald van Gerrit de Zeeuw en Pieter Puype die in 1901 door de bewoners aan koningin Wilhelmina en prins Hendrik werd aangeboden.

Henneman maakte zijn ultieme Kus, een ruimtelijke tekening van roestvrij staal. Elegant slingert de slanke toren zich omhoog, om te eindigen in een omhelzing in de lucht. Een symbool voor de liefde en daarmee een prachtig gedenkteken voor het prinselijk paar.

Geplaatst naast het station, middenin de drukte van het dagelijkse bestaan, is het beeld inmiddels een meeting point geworden. De natuurstenen sokkel functioneert als bank. Op het Stationsplein van Apeldoorn spreek je af bij De Kus, kan het mooier?
