The Times & Free Press was established on April 22, 1889, when the Land Run opened up this part of Oklahoma Territory for settlement. The Free Press later merged with the Times, to become what it is today. The Reid family has owned the newspaper since 1979. They currently have a circulation of about 3400.
The paper is published on Sunday and Wednesday. Because of the COVID-19 situation, several changes have had to take place to keep the paper afloat. Their office is closed on Wednesday, being open Monday, Tuesday, Thurs and Friday from 9:00-5:00. The Wednesday paper is presented both in print and digitally, however, the Sunday paper is only available digitally. Subscription rates are reasonable. For Kingfisher County residents, the digital issue is only $30 per year. To received the print copy also, the cost is $35 per years. Cost are just a few dollars higher for out of town subscribers.
The headquarters is located in a two-story brick building on the southeast corner of Main Street (Highway 81) and Robberts Street. The storefront has a single door, with glass block sidelights and half-wall display windows. The lower portion of the facade is simulated brick siding. The upper floor facing Main Street has vertical wood planking and large letters reading "Times and Free Press". On the north wall of the building, a large mural depicting the early days of Kingfisher was paint by Bob Palmer in the 1990's.
