The City of Edmond is taking new action to attract some of the metro's best food to its downtown area. City leaders unveiled new resources for food trucks this week.

The city’s plan is to do so by setting a mobile food truck station. Food trucks can now schedule a time to reserve a spot at the Littler Lawn in downtown Edmond free of charge.

“This space is a temporary space, but it will probably be here for a few more years, at least,” City of Edmond public information officer Casey Moore said. “So, what we're trying to do, is make sure that we activate this space until something new is built here. What we're trying to do is give people an opportunity to get out and enjoy that.”

Michael Park owns Oh My Gogi food truck and a cafe in Nichols Hills. Park said this helps food truck vendors get their name out in the community.

“It's not necessarily that we need to make the sales at that spot,” Park said. “If you do, it's awesome. It's great, but we also get to get our name to different people that would normally not know us if we were just a brick and mortar stationary area.”

During the pandemic, Park said the cafe faced many challenges, but its food truck thrived.

“For our food truck industry, it was a godsend,” Park said. “In a sense that there was business for us. Because people were worried about going out and eating and being too close to other people. The food truck was actually really great because we were able to go to neighborhoods. We went to them.”

The city said it won’t necessarily turn into a park exclusively for food trucks. The space is only available when there isn't an event taking place.
