This historical marker stands on the grounds of the former Post Office building.

This old post office building was constructed in 1912 on the northwest corner of Main Street (Highway 81) and Robberts Avenue. Off the southeast corner of the building, this marker reads:

OKLAHOMA
KINGFISHER

This was U.S. Land Office site
for filing claims at opening of
"old Oklahoma," April 22, 1889;
also, at openng of Cheyenne and
Arapaho lands on April 19, 1892.
J.C. Roberts was first Register,
and J. V. Admire, first Receiver.
First post office, Lisbon, estab-
lished April 20, 1889; name chang-
ed to Kingfisher, July 18, 2889.
