Talk about a deterrent to crime!! How would you like to be locked up in this open-air set of bars, open to the scorching sun, torrential rains, and bitter cold?
This jail originally stood in the town of Yale, Oklahoma, on Highway 51 east of Stillwater. Today, it is on display at the Chisholm Trail Museum in Kingfisher. It stands across from an original frame blacksmith building. Back in the early frontier days, blacksmiths were responsible for making the bars and straps used to secure prisoners.
Mounted on a concrete slab, this jail is about 8 ft. by 15 ft. with a solid metal roof. If you look closely in the gallery, I think we've incarcerated a wayward Waymarker.
