The Clarion River is a tributary of the Allegheny River in western Pennsylvania. It follows a 110-mile serpentine route through a mostly wooded area. In 1996, about half of that length was designated as “wild and scenic,” protecting its free-flowing status for recreational purposes.

The scene on the stamp is from Clear Creek State Park near Clarington, PA. It’s the view north close to the spot where Clear Creek joins the Clarion River.
