The grasshopper bridge (Græshoppebroen) or Karrebæksmindebroen connects the island of Enø with Karrebæksminde on the main island of Sjælland. The bascule bridge, which weighs around 200t and is around 35m long, was built and inaugurated in 1936, at that time over 14t of old horseshoes were used for the 100t counterweight.
For its 50th birthday in 1986, the bridge was painted a green shade by the artist Tonny Hofman and modeled on a grasshopper with different colored elements. On July 16, 1988 the bridge was officially named "Grasshopper Bridge".
In 2003 repairs to the supporting structure of the bridge were necessary, which removed the existing paint. With the young artist Lizette Rosager a concept for embellishment was worked out and the bridge was given a new face in 2005 and sensors made of processed copper plates.
