This former school was part of a nation wide program which took places in the 50's and 60's of the 20th century, developed to bring basic education to the whole population. The layout of the schools was similar, with changes only in the size of the building.
Most schools were basic and small, like this one, which can be found in the village of Ilhas.
With the migration of people towards major towns and cities the country wouldn't need so many schools and most of these buildings were sold by the State in auctions. It was possible to buy them for a very low price and most of them are now used for different purposes.
This one is now the headquarters of a local hunter's association.
