"Building located in the historic center of the town of Betanzos, in a modernist style (although with eclectic-historicist tendencies), built at the beginning of the 20th century (1914). It has a rectangular plan of two heights. The main façade is divided into three bodies, of which the central one stands out more. The openings are distributed symmetrically and are framed by moldings. It had both interior and exterior patios. The purpose for which this building was built was to provide both shelter, food and clothing for the elderly, as well as teaching for the young."

"The project was carried out by the architect Rafael González Villar. It has a U-shaped plan. It shows a classic division between the rooms for boys and girls, using different access doors, highlighted by arches profusely decorated with moldings and flanked by pillars. There is also a central, communal body, with large openings joined by interlaced arches, also highly decorated. The building ends with pinnacles. Historical references give it personality. The two-colored arches recall Islamic art, the decoration they present is typical of the Galician Baroque and, of course, the combination of materials (brick, cement, tiles) follows the modernist postulates. Today they are also known by the name of "San Francisco Schools"."
