Plaque commemorating Sergant of the Guardia di Finanza Gaetano Lamberti (* Formicola, January 31, 1907; † Lucca, September 7, 1944) at Porta di Sant'Anna.
On 5 September 1944, the German troops and the soldiers of the Repubblica Sociale Italiana withdrew from Lucca. During the retreat, the Manifattura Tabacchi di Lucca was to be destroyed. Resistance members, partisans and members of the Guardia di Finanza defended the factory. Gaetano Lamberti was seriously wounded by a grenade. While the city celebrated the liberation from fascism, Lamberti died on the night of September 7th in the Galli Tassi military hospital.
