The wooden church in Hammarö is located on the northern edge of the village of Norra Hammar and can accommodate around 300 visitors. It was built in the current cross shape in 1748, the sacristy and parts of the choir come from the previous church from the fourteenth century. Finds suggest, however, that a church already existed on this site around 1200. The wooden shingles were added during a renovation in 1933 and 1934. The pilgrimage route (Pilgrimsleden) to the grave of St. Olaf in Nidaros Cathedral in Trondheim begins at the church. As is more common in Nordic churches, the bell tower is located a little away from the main building.
Administratively, the Hammarö Church in the Swedish Church belongs to the Hammarö parish in Karlstadts diocese, services are held every Sunday at 11 a.m.
