The text on the plaque reads:
"A Lockheed P-38 Lightning of the U.S. Air Force's 55th Fighter Group crashed here on the afternoon of November 29, 1943, killing 24-year-old Second Lieutenant Pilot Albert A. Albino. On that particular day, Albino was escorting Allied bombers on a bombing flight to Bremen when he was shot down by a German fighter on his way back to home base in England. With unbridled speed, the rudderless Lightning crashed right next to the station building between the rail and disappeared deep into the ground. The pilot did not have the chance to leave his plane in time. The propeller was recovered during the construction of the pedestrian tunnel in March 1978. The remains of Albert Albino were also found at that time and were taken to his birthplace Portland in Oregon, USA and buried there."
