The Small Town Texas Mason's E-Magazine is available at Yumpu, and it has some good reading. Riesel had been established in 1891, and in 1899, it was busy enough to warrant the creation of a Masonic Lodge. At that point, the eight mile trip to the Oak Point Lodge (#636) in Mart could be problematical in poor weather, so the Riesel members petitioned the Grand Lodge of Texas, and their request to establish a lodge here was granted on December 7, 1899. Just over a week later, they opened and had their first meeting. They shared their first building with the First Baptist Church until it burned in 1902, and they occupied their second building until 1938, when they purchased the upper floor of the Wiebusch Building -- this building -- and ultimately made changes to it to accommodate privacy after buying the rest of it. Until 1925, they were a "moon lodge", meeting on the Saturday on or before a full moon.
