Op een 'rotonde', in het bos, vlakbij Heveadorp staat een prachtige oude wegwijzer. Bijzonder hieraan is dat hij de Italiaanse weg aangeeft die helemaal naar kasteel Doorwerth loopt.
'De Italiaanseweg is een begrip hier in de omgeving. Ook mountainbikers en wielrenners weten de smalle keitjes weg te vinden met een steiging van 80% is het een flinke uitdagende klim.
Vanuit Doorwerth is het kasteel te bereiken via de Italiaanseweg. Toeval? Nee, Baron van Brakell liet de weg in 1848 aanleggen om zijn kasteel te verbinden met de Utrechtseweg en station Wolfheze. Zo kon hij het kasteel eenvoudig bevoorraden. De baron noemde de weg zo omdat, vooral het eerste stuk met de haarspeldbochten, hem deed denken aan een weg uit Italië.

De Italiaanseweg is om het hoogteverschil van de stuwwal te overbruggen voorzien van haarspeldbochten. De route doet dan ook een beetje buitenlands aan.
Geniet tijdens de wandeling van de prachtige beukenlaan bovenover de stuwwal. Je komt langs enkele restanten van romantische tuinarchitectuur uit begin 1900.
Via een brede toegangsweg loop je van de parkeerplaats naar Landgoed Duno.

On a 'roundabout', in the woods, near Heveadorp is a beautiful old signpost. What is special about this is that it indicates the Italian road that runs all the way to Doorwerth Castle.
'Italian Road is a household name in the area. Mountain bikers and cyclists also know how to find their way through the narrow cobblestones. With an ascent of 80%, it is quite a challenging climb.
The castle can be reached from Doorwerth via the Italian road. Chance? No, Baron van Brakell had the road built in 1848 to connect his castle with the Utrechtseweg and Wolfheze station. This way he could easily supply the castle. The Baron named the road that way because, especially the first section with the hairpin bends, reminded him of a road from Italy.

Enjoy the beautiful beech avenue above the moraine during the walk. You pass some remnants of romantic garden architecture from the early 1900s.
