At most strategic points you will encounter the post-war border post with the coat of arms of Apeldoorn.
Prince William IV became Stadtholder of all the regions of the Netherlands in 1750. The States of Gelderland then decided to elevate Het Loo - an old area of ??the Oranges - to 'Hooge Heerlyckheyd'. This meant that the prince was given certain rights within this area and boundary markers were placed to indicate exactly which area it concerned. These boundary posts are partly still standing, although the original wooden posts have now largely been replaced by stone posts. A number of members of the Oud Apeldoorn Association restored the stones a few years ago and made them visible again.
