Monument Rocks Natural Area, north of Scott City, KS, was the first location in the US designated an NNL, in 1968.
Monument Rocks Natural Area, you'll see buttes, spires and pinnacles, all composed of Niobrara formation chalk, and sedimentary remnants deposited in the ancient Kansas Sea of the Cretaceous period. The site is rich in marine-life fossils.
