This phone booth was made from a section of a cedar tree which grew near Trout Lake, BC, east of Kootenay Lake. It was hauled to Salmo, BC in 1977 and became a phone booth, now standing outside the office of the Sal-Crest Motel along Highway 3 at Salmo. The first phone call made from the phone booth was made by the Mayor of Salmo. The story of the phone booth:
An average count of the tree rings in this phone booth, done in 1977, revealed an age of 465 years, give or take. Today, then, this phone booth would be about 509 years old. Given that the first real telephone was invented around 1854, this phone booth predates the telephone by about 342 years.

The phone booth is listed as one of the many attractions to be found in the Salmo area on the Salmo Recreation and Attractions web page and several other BC tourism sites.
