Taken from the Smithsonian website, "A portrait of Thurgood Marshall as a young lawyer is installed on a cylindrical base in a circular plaza. Behind him are six columns with the phrase "Equal Justice Under Law" inscribed across the architrave. Seated on one of two benches in front of Marshall is a figure of Donald Gaines Murray, whose entrance into the University of Maryland's Law School marked Thurgood Marshall's first important victory in his struggle for school integration. Seated on the other bench are figures of two children representing the children involved in "Brown v. The Board of Education of Topeka," another major achievement in school integration. Within the plaza surrounding the sculpture is a chronology of the important events in Thurgood Marshall's career."
