Flatiron building located at the corner Westerkade - Hoendiepskade in Groningen houses a Mc Donalds in the lower section and offices and homes in the upper section.

"The complex is located on the western edge of Groningen's inner city, on the site where the Westerhaven was constructed at the end of the nineteenth century. In the early 1960s the water was filled in and the site was transformed into a parking lot. With the construction of the Westerhaven complex, the area regains something of its former function as a transhipment and trading place.

The Westerhaven complex consists of an apartment building with 24 homes, 12,000 m2 of stores and a four-storey underground parking garage for approximately 800 cars. It follows the L-shape of the former Westerhaven. The north-south wing covers almost the full length of the site. This section is divided into three volumes, with underpasses running between them. Perpendicular to this wing is a terrace-shaped section that slopes in the direction of the Zuiderhaven.

In the extension of this building a green city balcony has been created. Underneath is a light, orderly parking garage. At the corner where the two building sections meet, there is a six-story apartment building."
