"Plant a Seed, Grow a Garden" is one of the original 21 painted utility boxes commissioned by the Ithaca Public Arts Commission in 2012 in a program called 21 Boxes. Art teacher Jackie Richardson was selected to paint this utility box. She has a message to convey as depicted on the utility box.

The sidewalk side has a plants sprouting from seeds. Above is a blue sky with swirls of clouds and the message PLANT A SEED. Below is a cityscape outlined in white against a green background. The north side has the word HARVEST with the picture of a beet, a hand with a tomato, and below a bunch of carrots all against a black background. The street side has a line drawing of a man and woman are painted in white and black against the background of a farm. The message GROW A GARDEN appears on the to their right. Above is a cityscape against a black background. The south side has the picture of a large carrot against a black background.
